Seatbelt Purses

seatbelt bags The original seatbelt purse (yes, made from REAL seat belts) has been around for awhile, but these bags are still hot, still stylish, and still tons of fun.

Brainchild of a couple who had a bunch of seatbelt material left over when they were restoring their 1950 Buick (seriously), these handbags, purses, totes, baguettes, and messenger bags are made of 100% real seat belt material. They're also lined with genuine flight satin -- the same satin the Airforce uses for flight jackets.

Which means they're sturdy enough to carry 2,000 pounds of your favorite lipsticks, blush, and fashion accessories. Fashionable and functional, um-hmmm...

Price: (at the time of this review)
Prices Range from $75.95 - $97.95

Gizmo Gremlins

gizmo gremlins Twenty years ago, the GREMLINS movie hit the theatres and has since enjoyed status as a Cult Classic. Now the movie has been re-released on DVD and there is a new selection of Gizmo Gremlins ready to brighten up your home or office.

New toys inclue Gizmo action figures, water globes (does this sound like a bad idea to anyone else?), pens, stationery, and bobbleheads. Poker Player, Stripe, and Brain figures also available.

But for goodness sakes, DO NOT GET THEM WET. Or feed them after midnight. Really, you musn't -- if you do, I'll be pulling for you to stay alive until sunlight. ;)

Ostrich Feather Duster

ostrich feather duster Call me old-fashioned, call me behind the times, but in my opinion, you cannot beat a feather duster for cleaning bookshelves, knick-knack heavy shelves, and yes, even mini-blinds (though you do have to actually USE the feather duster more than once or twice a year... trust me on this one, not that I speak from, ahem, personal experience).

And the mother of all feather dusters? One made of ostrich feathers. Natural oils in the feathers helps attract dust and the duster can be cleaned by a gentle shaking after use. An occasional steam cleaning (get out your tea kettle) keeps the duster in great shape.

Modern Artisans (a shop featuring handcrafted goods by American artisans) carries a great duster that's created from feathers collected after molting (when the bird drops its feathers naturally). That's right, no naked ostriches out there because of your dusting fetish. ;)

Handmade Cameo Jewelry

handmade cameo jewelry In my not so humble opinion, handcarved cameo jewelry is one of the most romantic gifts a man can give a woman. Why is that? I'm not 100% sure. But I think part of the reason surronds the fact that each piece (when handmade and not mass-produced machine made) is an individual work of art, the jewelry design recalls the romance of Victorian times, and it is a piece of jewelry selected not to match a particular outfit, but to express sentiment.

I've just found a GORGEOUS selection of handmade cameo brooches, rings, bracelets, and earrings. These are Italian handcarved cameos fashioned from Cornelian Shell and set in 14K gold.

If you are looking for a truly romantic present, these handmade cameos are a gift of fine jewelry that she will treasure forever.

Price: (at the time of this review)
Prices vary with piece, but the piece shown sells for $399.00 (while on sale)
