Picnic Backpack

picnic backpack The contemporary version of the picnic basket? The picnic backpack.

The one pictured is my absolute favorite. It's made of canvas and comes complete with four place settings (plates, drinkware, dinnerware), cutting board, spreading knife, salt and pepper shakers, cork, and corkscrew. The backpack has an insulated cooler section, an extra front storage compartment, and an insulated, detachable wine pouch (mmmm!). The fashionable hat is sold separately.

If you're looking for a less expensive picnic backpack, check out the "polyester canvas" picnic backpack available at CoolStuffCheap. Or, if you're looking something even more upscale, but at a reasonable price, check out the leather picnic backpacks.

Price: (at the time of this review)
$98.00 (Canvas bag at Uncommon Goods)
$58.99 - $82.99 ("Polyester Canvas" and leather at CoolStuffCheap)

Baby Shower Gift

baby shower gift My absolutely favorite baby shower gift of all times! It's fun, it's creative, and it's absolutely a sentimental sweetheart.

This package comes with six onesies and the art supplies to decorate and personalize each onesie -- hand the supplies out to the baby shower guests (they can do individual projects or work as teams) and mom goes home with six fabulous outfits that are a reminder of her baby shower AND the special people in her life.

It's a baby shower gift AND a baby shower game -- and a lot more fun than "Guess the number of Q-tips in a Jar".

Price: (at the time of this review)
$66.00

Mickey Mouse Watch

mickey mouse watch Years ago I had this cheapo Mickey watch (long since dead) and I've missed the classic Mickey Mouse Watch look -- yes, there are other Mickey watches and there are even similar watches. But I don't want another cheap watch and I want the one where Mickey's hands tell the time and the band is a simple black leather strap.

Classic. And Quality.

Finally Fossil has come out with a top of the line collectible (this is no cheapo, but it is affordable) Micky Mouse watch that has the hands AND the strap. It's in honor of Mickey's 75th birthday, but be aware that this is a LIMITED edition -- only 2,000 made and once they're sold, you'll be scouring eBay for them.

Price: (at the time of this review)
$115.00

Catwoman Posters

catwoman posters Oooh, Catwoman, the movie, is getting panned at Yahoo! and Amazon (the main complaint seems to be that it doesn't follow the comic book and it's just a wee tad slow). I haven't seen it, yet, but hey, the Catwoman Posters are cool.

I tell ya, though... while Halle Berry may be a hottie, Trinity still looks better in leathers.

Price: (at the time of this review)
$8.99 - $34.99

Wallet Cigarette Cases

wallet cigarette cases These are brilliant wallet cigarette cases -- yes, that's a wallet created from a cigarette case.

Sound a bit odd? Maybe, but these are the perfect "wallets" for carrying some cash, your id, and a credit card or two. Which makes them perfect for clubbing or any other time you're carrying a small purse.

These wallet cigarette cases are laminated with slightly naughty, tons of fun, vintage book covers. They're absolutely divine in their decadence, but not so naughty as to be crass.

The diva in you will be thrilled.

Price: (at the time of this review)
$32.00

Hot Halloween Costumes 2004

That's right, it's time to start thinking about your Halloween Costume -- at least it is if you want one of the hot ones. Good costumes generally start selling out of hard-to-fit sizes in in early to mid-September and the hottest costumes are often completely sold out by the first week of October.

HOWEVER, if you see something already marked as "Out of Stock" and the web site offers email notification of when costumes are restocked, SIGN UP. Some of the hottest new costumes haven't been released yet, so you still have a chance to get them.

Hot Halloween Costumes 2004

  1. Fairy Costumes
Tinkerbell was extremely popular last year and now fairies in general are a BIG hit. In addition to Tink, there are Barbie Fairy Costumes, Valerie Tabor Designer Fairy Costumes, Gothic Fairy Costumes, Gliiter Fairies, Woodland Fairies, and more.
  2. Spiderman Costume
The costume makers have pulled out all the stops -- there are Spiderman Costumes for babies, toddlers, kids, adults and PETS. There's even a kid's Anti-Venom costume and one where the webbing on the costume glows in the dark. COOL! Also available, Green Goblin, Venom Mask, gloves, boots, and more.
  3. Lord of the Rings Costumes
The effects of the magnificent movie triology (based on J.R.R. Tolkien's books) are still being seen and Lord of the Rings costumes are highly popular -- particularly good if you want to get themed costumes for a group.
  4. Greek Costumes
The movie Troy was a blockbuster epic with rich sets and costumes. Halloween shoppers want to share in the epic and Greek Costumes are seeing a big surge in popularity.
  5. Pirate Costumes
What Brad Pitt did for a teal dress, excuse me "toga", Johnny Depp did for Pirate Costumes -- and then some. Even though the Black Pearl sailed prior to Halloween 2003, pirate costumes are back this year and just as popular.
  6. Harry Potter Costumes
One of the top kids costumes for the past several years and nothing has changed in 2004. The Harry Potter movie released this year (Prisoner of Azkaban) ensured that there will be plenty of young wizards (Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Malfoy) roaming the streets this Halloween. And for the first time -- Harry Potter robes in ADULT sizes!
  7. Shrek Costumes
Nothing says Halloween like a big green ogre (Shrek) and his bride (Fiona)... and yes, even a smart aleck donkey. And what other costume gives the wearer free range to belch without saying "excuse me"? "Better out than in!"
  8. Tom Arma Costumes for Babies
Once these baby furry new designs are released (promised in July, click the above link and sign up now to be notified when they'll arrive), they will be the hottest sellers for babies.
  9. Star Wars Costumes
Always a favorite and such a magnificent array of characters. Whether you want to be a rugged hero, a sexy femme fatale, or a butt-ugly alien, there is always a Star Wars option to meet your needs. I hear the Sith will be very popular for the villainous types. ;)
  10. George Bush Mask / John Kerry Mask
It's an election year and just a few days after Halloween, we'll be picking between George W. Bush and John Kerry -- you can be sure you'll be seeing a lot of these two "characters" on October 31.
