Glass Toaster
I want one of these... in the worst way. I don't know why, but I must have one.
Yep, it's a glass toaster. You stand in front of the toaster anyway, waiting for that critical moment where it pops to the top and must be immediately snatched (if you're to have a hope of getting the butter properly melted), this gives you something to watch while you wait.
Unfortunately, the designers are still looking for a manufacturer... please, can't someone put this puppy into production?
NOTE: The designer's site is, well, a site made by designers. Ergo, it looks fabulous, but is a bit tough to navigate. When you get there scroll all the way to the right and click on the line drawing that looks sorta of like a computer monitor.

(If you don't find the above poem very funny and somewhat sweet, you're probably better off just skipping today's whole blog entry.)
Contrary to pervailing myths, Geeks DO have time for girlfriends/boyfriends, time to date, to fall in love and to search desperately for Valentine's Day Gifts for that special coder.
ThinkGeek has a hot collection of gifts for geeks including t-shirts with the geek poem (pictured), HTTPanties (with messages such as "403 Forbidden" and "200 OK"), "I LOVE MY GEEK" t-shirts, Cat-5 Cable Bracelets, and more.
Forget the talking frog, how about a red Swingline stapler for your beloved geek? And you can always borrow it... on second thought, better get a second one for yourself.

Arty Golf Gift
I have friends that golf.
I don't understand them, but I do love them. And frankly, I'm always relieved by friends that accept "themed gifts" -- just makes life a whole lot easier.
But the golfers are tough because, well... so many "unique golf gifts" are just... cheesy.
To find an arty golf gift? Now THAT's both a rarity and a treasure.
Artist Michelle Allen has created just that in her series of whimsical clocks. The golf clock shown here is obviously golf, obviously arty, and not available at every pro shop on the block.
The is the perfect gift for golfers who like independent films, independent bookstores, and Magritte.
Why these people golf is beyond my ken, but I'm happy to find an artist who understands them.

Personal Ice Cream Holder
I didn't know they even existed... but now I must have one... or three. What is I can't live without? A
personal ice cream holder -- holding one glorious pint of my favorite guilty indulgence.
I know this really should be a Summer blog entry, but ice cream is a darling of mine -- I love its many forms and its delightfully cold comfort. I'm just disappointed in myself that until I was checking out the arty fun of a new site, I never considered honoring my darling with its own oh-so-decorative container.
[glancing in the direction of the kitchen] Just one moment, precious -- I'll be right there with your new home.
