Emerald Cut Diamond

emerald cut diamond It's rare for an emerald cut diamond to make the news, boys and girls, but when the Donald pops the question, everybody wants to know about The Ring (and well, the age-difference, the former wives, and just how many lawyers it will take to draw up the pre-nuptial agreement).

That's right, billionaire Donald Trump has proposed to five-year girlfriend, Melania Knauss and one of the big topics for discussion is the one-million dollar, 12-carat emerald cut diamond ring. Yes, that IS a large diamond and no, it is not the one pictured above. That center diamond is but one carat.

Also an interesting choice of cuts. Over 75% of the diamonds sold are "round brilliants", but leave it to Mr. Trump to buck the common. An "emerald cut" is a rectangular shape with cropped corners (as pictured above). While it may not be as sparkly as the round brilliant, its long lines and trim shape make for a most elegant piece of jewelry.
